The Beauty & The Beast Triathlon on St. Croix is set for December 8, 2019. The race has continued the triathlon tradition on the island, offering a challenging course most known for “The Beast,” a 15% average grade climb overlooking the south shore beaches and sea.
Situated in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the destination offers U.S. citizens the ease of traveling to the picturesque Caribbean without a passport. But visiting for the race this winter just got even better as American Airlines recently announced they have eliminated oversize luggage fees for bicycles in a “hard-sided case, bicycle bag or box built for bicycle transport”. Since St. Croix is considered a domestic destination, this recent news allows athletes to take advantage of extra cost savings, paying just standard checked bag fees for their bicycles.
Airlift from the U.S. mainland varies daily but is most frequently operated by American Airlines, offering twice daily service from Miami, FL and an additional Saturday service from Charlotte, NC. Currently Spirit Airlines offers flights five days a week to St. Croix from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and connections through San Juan, PR or St. Thomas, USVI on Seaborne Airlines.
This year’s race will offer athletes their choice of participating in a long-distance course, sprint course or a sprint aquathlon. Relays are offered in the long-distance course and sprint triathlon races. Athletes also have an opportunity to hear from past race legends, including 8-time IRONMAN® Champion Wendy Ingraham, at an exclusive Pro Talk the day before competing.
VI TRI is not only donating its race proceeds to local nonprofits, but is also offering to athletes 25% off registration fees when using promotion code “beast19” before June 30, 2019. For more information or to sign up for the 2019 race, visit www.virginislandstriathlon.com.
