Professional Triathlete, Catriona Morrison, officially announced this week that she will be racing in the 2018 Beauty & The Beast Triathlon on the island of St. Croix. Morrison has competed in the legendary race before, placing first in her event four of the six years she participated. Morrison shared her excitement to return to the Caribbean in a video posted by VITRI, a 501(c)(3) organization running the triathlon that will take place on December 2nd, stating the “great island, challenging course and friendly people” all attributed to the race “holding a special place in her heart”.

Morrison will be joined on the course by professional triathlete Angela Naeth as they continue their quest to conquer the world-famous 15% average grade climb known as the “beast.” Other race legends who will be in St. Croix for the events include 8-time IRONMAN® Champion, Wendy Ingraham, IRONMAN® Champion & Triathlon Hall of Famer Karen Smyers and Olympic Medalists & IRONMAN® Champion Michellie Jones. Race participants will have several opportunities to mix and mingle with the pros and legends throughout the race weekend festivities.

The VI TRI committee has partnered with the US Virgin Islands Department or Tourism and National Park Services for this year’s race which aims to raise funds for the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center, My Brother’s Table and the Caribbean Centers for Boys and Girls Club of the Virgin Islands, all of whom were greatly impacted by Hurricane Maria in September 2017.

Athletes will have an opportunity to give back to the cause by purchasing raffle tickets throughout the weekend for a chance to win a USA Triathlon jacket signed by Gwen Jorgensen, Sarah Groff, Laura Bennett (who has raced in St. Croix), Hunter Kemper and Manuel Huerta.

The race committee is also currently offering a $20 savings on registration as well as a free 16-week training program. Plus, another great bonus is that passports are not required for U.S. citizens.
